#MMSM – Myeloma Hashtags in Social Media

What are hashtags? Hashtags, represented by the pound symbol (#), allow users of social media platforms to create groups of messages around specific topics. Patients, doctors, advocates and Patient Power all use keywords following a hashtag symbol (e.g. #keyword), creating an easy way for anyone to keep up with the latests news and conversations.

Search and follow the #mmsm hashtag (an acronym for Multiple Myeloma Social Media) to see what others are talking about. Add #mmsm to your own tweets and posts to connect with the greater myeloma community.

Using hashtags is most popular on sites like Twitter and Instagram but is also used on Facebook and Google+.

The Healthcare Hashtag Project

The Healthcare Hashtag Project is a great way to find conversations on topics relevant to myeloma patients and caregivers, especially around medical conferences.

Browse and search healthcare hashtags at:

Facebook and Google+ Pages, YouTube Channel

Many organizations and companies, including Patient Power and ranging from cancer centers to advocacy groups, maintain Facebook and Google+ pages to keep people up-to-date on their activities. By “liking” these pages, articles and links from these organizations will appear in your news feed alongside posts from your friends and family.

YouTube channels are slightly different in that they focus primarily on video content. By subscribing to a channel on YouTube, you can choose to be automatically updated every time a new video is added. Since YouTube is owned by Google, you can log in using your existing Gmail or Google Account. Check out Patient Power’s subscriptions for other channels that may be helpful for you.
